Celebrating the Past with Colors and Dancing

With a blast of colors worn and celebrated by students, faculties and parents, the 88th Founding Anniversary of Calauag Central College came into a wonderful start on February 15, 2019. The streets of Calauag, Quezon was filled with music and people dancing as they commemorate the humble beginning of their institution. Celebrating with them are the townspeople who awaits them on the street towards the Bulwagang Manuel Luis Quezon. Truly, a beautiful day for everyone.

The sun joins the celebration as it shines brightly to each participants. A perfect weather for a day full of excitement and surprises. Despite the heat and sweat, the students fervently waved, twirled and danced; nothing can stop each of them to perform their best performances they prepared for weeks. The students truly showed their talents and willingness to express what they could do.

Among the surprises of the day was the participation of the parents in the street dance. Leading the group, the parents bravely faced the heat and showed a great performance. Wearing polka dots dresses, their beautiful ensemble radiates in the crowd as they wave their arms into dancing and proved well that age doesn’t matter in performing.

As the students and parents celebrate the founding anniversary with different music and instruments, it hyped the crowd that brought a pleasant atmosphere in the celebration. With cymbals, lyrics, tambourines and drums – the whole town can hear the happiness and excitement of the community. The crowd gathers along the street to see the wonderful performances the people of Calauag Central College had prepared.

The Grade 10 who won the competition graced the street and the hall with the perfect combination of their tambourine and dances. Clothed with a beautiful combination of orange, blue and pink, they had shown an exciting and well-coordinated performance. As they jump, twirl and sound off their tambourine, the audience were truly captivated and amazed. Notwithstanding the heat, they dance with joy and smiles – nothing can seem to take away from them their determination to win.


Amidst the commotion and powerful performances, the college department of course will not just stand by and watch. Bagging the second place, the Marketing Management Society showed that with unity, stunning props and powerful dance moves, they can bring the crown in a hype. As the students dance with their beautifully decorated fans and wonderful color combination of green and yellow – they showed that they could truly market their performance in a blast. The crowd cheered as they waved and showed their well-designed props giving away an amazing performance.

Coming in third place is the beautiful and graceful Grade 7. Holding their wonderfully made floral garland, they showed a beautiful and graceful performance. Wearing beautiful pink dresses and pink suits, they had shown that even at a young age, they could pull-off a stunning performance. A well-deserved win. Like others, they didn’t let the heat take away the fun in performing and dancing for the crowd to see.

As the sun shines brightly and the crowds get more excited, one may forget that it was a day of celebrating the founding of an institution because it was not just the Centralians that came to participate but the whole town. It shows the festive culture of every Filipino, a testament of the town’s gratitude for the efforts of those behind the founding of an institution that benefitted the education of many people in the area.

Being one of the pioneering school in Calauag, Quezon, the institution had stood well in time, witnessing the different events that transpired over the years as it serve the Filipino community with the best education that it could give. In its 88th Founding Anniversary, this is well reflected – as the students and parents show different cultural dances, it showed that their lives will always be connected to the past and like so, the Calauag Central College will remain thankful to its founders and the development it experienced over the years.

The other group participants may not had won but that would still not take away the joy and excitement that the celebration brought to them. A truly remarkable event honoring the founders of Calauag Central College. And to think that all of these are results of the efforts of two young educators, Dr. Vicente Vilar and Mr. Jose Fernandez – we can truly say that great things happen in humble beginnings. Each student, faculty, and parent stand in witness of the magnificent day honoring the founding of the institution.

What happened that day would remain in the memories of those who had witnessed it and so is the efforts of those who had given their lives to serving the many generations of Calauag. Such event would have not been possible without the bravery and determination of the founders of the school. Through them, the town could bring out the best of their capabilities. In their service for educating the young women and men of the past, they had brought a bright and amazing generation. The founding anniversary of Calauag Central College is a celebration of the fruits of the people who had gone beyond their limitation to educating the town.

Through the efforts and sacrifices of many people in the past, a bright future was possible. Every student who danced and exerted their efforts into the performance stands as testament of the magnificent work that institution had done and as the years come to pass, nothing can ever take away the wonderful legacy that the founders of the institution had left.
